GETTING OUT

The Eden Valley where I live has some fantastic routes, without being too hilly. It’s an antidote to the load-bearing impact of running and another great source of aerobic conditioning.

And there’s another motive - The Fred Whitton. The Fred is a 112 mile bike ride around the Lake District taking in Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott, Wrynose and Kirkstone passes, 4000 metres of ascent with gradients up to 30%. During 2018, I’m hoping to be out on the Fred, aiming to complete the route ‘in one’, without stopping, or getting off for a pasty. Derek.
